Six Months, Half a Year
flash fiction #1
She returned to the city at the hottest moment in history. This, after living for half a year—or six months, as she preferred to say, because it gave her the illusion of it being less time—in a mountain valley where the cold was a part of daily life. But the culture shock was such that she embraced the humid, tropical heat of her hometown more than ever before. Because sometimes there are places you go simply to learn how to appreciate where you came from. Though she never imagined she would return so soon, and more alone than ever. It is not the kind of thing one can foresee when first discovering the mountains with such hope.
I wanted the first one to be a piece of flash fiction, just like when I started out as a self-published writer on a blog. It has been so long since I wrote a story this short that I felt a bit rusty, so it was a good challenge as well.
What thoughts did it evoke for you?
Thanks for reading!
