Autumns of Yesteryear
Fiction stories inspired by life
"Autumns of Yesteryear," a title inspired by Isao Takahata's film, Only Yesterday.
I have never known autumn except through photographs. I am familiar with each of its elements—individually, of course: dry, crunchy leaves; rainfall and winds; its colors, and the nostalgia. These elements, though inanimate, never seemed foreign to our existence. On the contrary, I believe they have observed human lives from the best vantage points. If I may personify them, I imagine them contemplating the same stories, yet each one different in the end. I cannot imagine what they might think—that would be overstepping into invention—but I do see them as great storytellers.
Perhaps there truly was something better about the past, but that isn't the only reason we long for it. As the saying goes, one must know their history, sometimes simply to gain perspective and, in my opinion, become wiser as a result. "Autumns of Yesteryear" is an invitation to look with curiosity and an open mind at who we were and who we are. For, as long as we have memory, drifting to and from our recollections is inevitable.
Fiction is one of the beautiful things about being human: it needs nothing more than imagination to become reality. It allows us to venture through other lives, other stories, and other realities. "Autumns of Yesteryear" remembers the world that was very well and validates, not without effort, the world that is now. Existence, bittersweet from its very conception, is at the same time enchanting.
Hello! This is queen lovegood (ana elízabeth) writing to you, a writer and blogger since the age of fourteen, through all the ups and downs. I have explored many platforms, but none have made me feel the way Blogger did. I think Fika could be that permanent place to publish my stories and a bit more about the process behind the keyboard, while we build a community—which is the most beautiful part of blogging.
See you soon!
